Bahamas Fed Cup team suffers 3-0 loss to host Puerto Rico

THE Bahamas’ Fed Cup team lost its third game at the Americas Group II competition at the Centro De Tenis Honda in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, yesterday. The Bahamas suffered a 3-0 loss to the host Puerto Rican team.

In the opening singles, Isabel Donaldson lost 6-0, 6-1 to Julieanne Bou and Iesha Shepherd got blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Minca Puig.

Donaldson and Shepherd teamed up to play doubles, but they lost a 6-4, 6-1 decision to the team of Bou and Ana Sofia Cordero.

The Bahamas lost its previous two games 3-0 to Guatemala and 2-1 to the Dominican Republic.

The Bahamas is scheduled to play its final game in pool B today against Uruguay. Going into the match, the Bahamas has compiled a 1-8 win-loss record. Uruguay is 5-4.

Following today’s round robin, the playoffs are expected to get underway on Saturday with the top two teams in the two pools advancing to determine which two nations will advance to the Americas Zone Group One in 2017. The nation finishing fifth in pool B will not compete in the positional playoffs. The teams making up pool A are Venezuela, Chile, Honduras and Costa Rica. Pool B includes the Bahamas, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Dominican Republic.
