Security officer shot in attempted robbery at Abaco resort

A SECURITY officer at a resort in Abaco was shot during an attempted armed robbery on Thursday evening, police reported.

According to reports, the incident happened shortly before 11pm when a lone gunman accosted a female employee of a business establishment and a security officer at the resort.

Inspector Terecita Pinder, of Grand Bahama Police, reported that a male suspect demanded cash and discharged his firearm, hitting the male security officer in the upper arm.

She said the culprit was unsuccessful in getting any cash and fled the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that assist the police with their investigations into the matter to call Marsh Harbour Police Station 367-2560/ 367-3437, or Central Detective Unit Office in Grand Bahama 350-3106 through 12, 919, 911, or call the nearest police station.

Abaco police discovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana in the Haitian community of the Mudd on Thursday evening.

Insp Pinder reported that officers from the Marsh Harbour station, while in the Mudd with other government officials, discovered a plastic bag containing a grassy substance believed to marijuana in an unfinished wooden structure.

The drugs were seized but there was no arrest. Police are investigating.
