A 24-year-old Bimini man was charged with murder and illegal firearm possession in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Alfredo Russell, of Morgan’s Drive, South Bimini, appeared before Charlton Smith in court two. It is alleged that the accused intentionally and unlawfully caused the death of Rodrige Elliassaint.

Russell was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge, which is an indictable offence.

He was also charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and pleaded not guilty.

The matter was adjourned to May 23, 2016 and is expected to proceed by way of a voluntary bill of indictment.

Russell has been remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until his trial.
