A MAN’s burnt body was found in bushes in Abaco late Tuesday night, marking that island’s first homicide for the year.

The country’s murder count now stands at 13 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.

Police in Abaco said they received an anonymous phone call that a body was discovered in bushes off S C Bootle Highway. When officers arrived at the scene shortly after 9pm, they saw the badly burnt body lying on the ground.

The victim was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead at the scene.

A team of officers from Grand Bahama went to Abaco on Wednesday to assist with the investigations.

The discovery came days after a 31-year-old father of two was killed in Nassau at Irish Springs Close off John Chipman Street on Saturday.

According to police, the victim was involved in an argument with two other men shortly after 10.30pm when he was shot.

The victim, Alexander Carey, was recently acquitted of the May 2011 murder of Ahmed Babbs, a police source said. At the time of his death, Babbs was on bail accused of shooting Carey a month earlier.

Police are actively investigating these crimes and are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them at the Marsh Harbour Police Station at 367-3437/367-2560, the Central Detective Unit in Grand Bahama at 350-3107-12, 911/919 or call your nearest police station.
