AN elderly Abaco woman sustained serious burns to the body in a house fire on Thursday night and was airlifted to hospital in New Providence for medical treatment.

According to Abaco police, officers received reports shortly after 10pm about a fire at a single wooden structure in the Crown Haven community and went to assist.

On arrival, the officers and residents managed to assist the 86-year-old woman who had been seriously injured. The blaze was extinguished, but her house was completely destroyed.

The woman was taken to the Cooper’s Town Government Clinic for medical attention and was said to be in serious condition. She was later airlifted to New Providence for further medical attention.

Abaco Police are also investigating an incident involving a group of young men who were robbed at gunpoint in the Marsh Harbour area on Thursday evening.

Inspector Terecita Pinder reported that four males were in the area of a resort in Marsh Harbour shortly after 10pm when they were held up by three masked men with handguns.

The suspects robbed the men of personal items and fled the scene on foot. No one was injured.
