No respect for neighbours

EDITOR, The Tribune.

This is an open letter directed to the new occupants of a certain “Apartment No. 3”, located within the Sandilands Village community.

From the very first day you moved in, with your sleek black car, you have shown a complete and utter lack of respect and courtesy for your fellow neighbours living within the same apartment triplex. We have had our sleep, our calm, and our peace and quiet interrupted, repeatedly, by you and your many friends, who choose to play Rap, Dancehall, and other “ragga ragga” music as loud as possible at ungodly hours, while people are trying to sleep. Tonight, or rather, today, was no exception:

At 3:41am, Saturday morning, I am rudely awakened by loud R&B music coming from your apartment. It is now 4:14am, and the cacophony has not eased. Rather, it seems that the noise has only gotten louder.

To those of you reading this letter, you might be asking: “Why don’t you simply just ask these people to turn their music down?” Good question, but the problem is, we live in a country, and an age, where people have become extremely impatient, extremely ill-tempered, and extremely combative; politeness and decency are relics of the past. Sadly, far too many people in this country feel – and act – as though it is their “Constitutional Right” to host parties and play music as loud as possible in the middle of the night until the early morning hours without a care in the world, and when confronted about the noise they are making, these hooligans, fuelled by alcohol and marijuana, want to literally fight you.

They yell and scream and cuss, and threaten you with violence if you don’t leave and get off their property.

To the occupants of said apartment: If you are reading this, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

This is a classic example of the Golden Rule - “Do onto others, as you would have them do onto you.” You wouldn’t want anyone interrupting your sleep at 3am in the morning, so why do it to your neighbours? I can only hope that you read this letter, see the error of your ways, and try to be a better neighbour, and perhaps, a better person.

LOSING SLEEP
