RAY Minus Jr is excited about the future of amateur boxing in the country. His Champion Amateur Boxing Club continues to do its part in the promotion of the sport.

At 7pm Saturday in the Wulff Road Boxing Centre, Champion Amateur Boxing Club is all set to host its second amateur boxing show for the year dubbed “No Fear.”

“The Champion Amateur Boxing Show has been very dedicated and consistent with its programme and to develop the young boxers in the country,” Minus Jr said. “Our goal is to continue to develop the sport of boxing and to keep the sport moving in the right direction.”

Lennox Boyce, Champion Amateur Boxing Club’s 2015 Boxer of the Year, is expected to lead the list of competitors in the show. Boyce, who has had a great deal of success against the local boxers he has faced, will be taking on a competitor coming out of Abaco.

According to Minus Jr, the boxer was able to beat one of Champion Amateur Boxing Club’s boxers, DeeDee Eugene, when he last fought in New Providence on January 30.

“He’s looking to excel once again when he takes on Lennox Boyce in the main event,” Minus Jr said.

Minus Jr said the fans thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the last Champion Amateur Boxing Show and he anticipates that they will come out and be entertained once again when this show is staged.

“The thought of being perfect, we wasn’t. We fell down,” Minus Jr said. “But no matter what, you have to always try to do your best for your fans and so we want to make sure and do all the little things to make the show even more entertaining for them when they come. When they come this time, we want to make sure that the fans are completely happy.”

Minus Jr said they are once again looking to feature boxers from the Strikers Boxing Club, Lion-Heart Boxing Club and Major Pain Amateur Boxing Club, who were successful in winning the last show on January 30.

“With these clubs coming together, the boxers gain a lot of valuable experience as we maintain our relationships and we give these boxers the opportunity to improve on their skills,” Minus Jr said.

The January 30 show also attracted the presence of professional boxers Tureano ‘Reno’ Johnson, his sister Kayla and Strikers Boxing Club coach Ronn Rodgers.

“Reno is helping to lend his support to the Strikers Boxing Club, we have another professional in Meacher Major with his Major Pain Boxing Club and we have Stevie ‘the Heat’ Larrimore with his Lion-Heart Boxing Club,” Minus Jr said.

“So with all of these clubs coming together, we are forming a good working relationship and it will only help to improve the sport of boxing.”

Unfortunately, none of the boxers in any of their programmes are eligible to compete in this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But Minus Jr said they are going to continue to work with them with the view that they will be ready to participate in the next games in 2020.

Minus Jr, however, said he’s confident that the group of boxers vying to travel to Rio have the potential, they are well experienced and very knowledgeable, but it will boil down to their commitment and desire and he hopes that they can remain focused and they will be able to accomplish their goal.

“I’m very excited about boxing. I think boxing is back. When professional boxing returns, I think we will have more potential world class boxers than we had in the past. With the amateur boxing programme, I think we have a programme that will work and I’m looking for some good things to happen in a short space of time. So I would like for the fans to come out and enjoy another exciting tournament.
