The BAISS champions overcame a sluggish start and eventually took control firmly enough to allow their bench to play the bulk of the minutes in the second half.

Junior player Mateo Taylor moved up to the senior ranks for the tournament and led the Falcons’ balanced scoring effort with nine points. Frantwoin Newton finished with seven points while Adam Johnson finished with four points and eight rebounds.

A Russell steal and layup lifted the lead to 29-9, they took a 36-9 lead into the half.

Falcons head coach and six-time tournament winner Norris Bain said his goal is to get his team to grasp the concept of playing with the long term championship goal in mind.

“We’re just trying to play hard and take it one game at a time. We know we will have to adjust to the style of play and once we do that we will be fine. Mary Star is a familiar opponent, so we knew what to expect,” he said. “The biggest thing is that I am trying to get my guys to understand that they can’t look past anyway. Focus on the game at hand, correct the mistakes and move on.”
