Club Awari. - David Sands, local entrepreneur and promoter of ‘Mind Games’, organised the first afternoon of a new initiative for his Club Awari at the Green Parrot, East Bay Street on Saturday.

Club Awari is a Mind Sports Club whose mission is to promote mind sports in the community but especially among the youth. Club Awari has partnered with the Green Parrot to host mind sports at the East Bay Street location.

Dr Sands says Club Awari is a place where you can go to learn, play and compete in any of the table games – Awari, backgammon, bridge, chess, checkers, dominoes, Scrabble and Whist.

Last Saturday, there were twenty players participating in a number of activities. Four students attended a chess class given by well-known chess teacher, Kean Smith. At another table a group of five youths played a variety of games including Awari – African chess.

The major event was a team match by the Paradise Bridge Club. The event was won by the team of Lesley Spencer, Jane Evans, Anna Sodre and John Almeida.

A great time was had by all and everyone appreciated the gracious staff of the Green Parrot who served drink and food in a beautiful environment.

Club Awari meets on the first and third Saturdays of each month. The next meeting will be 12.30 pm on Saturday 5th March at the Green Parrot, East Bay Street.
