RUGBY

HEINEKEN CUP

ACTION

THIS weekend, the Bahamas Rugby Union will continue their Heineken Cup action in New Providence and Grand Bahama.

This Saturday’s doubleheader could decide the outcome of the league.

Although Freeport has a five-point lead at the top, their only defeat so far this season was at home to Baillou so this game is far from being a formality. With two games left to play, Baillou can also win the league, while Buccaneers will find them in the position of hoping for a Baillou win before they take on Cuckoos.

Basically with only a couple of games to go there are still three teams with a chance of winning the League before we go into the playoffs for the Heineken Cup.

Weekend action:

2pm - Baillou vs Freeport

3:30pm - Ladies’ 7s

4pm - Buccaneers vs

Cuckoos

RUGGERFEST

Congratulations to the Renegades who represented us at the Ft Lauderdale Ruggerfest last weekend. Despite injuries and reduced squad, they placed 3rd overall finishing up with a 52-0 win over US Virgin Islands.

Thank You

A big thanks to everybody who turned out last Saturday for the game against Charlotte Barbarians. I was half expecting a disaster with so many players away and such an early kick off, but we were well represented on and off the field and the game was a massive success with our boys running away with it in the end 64 - 31.

Ladies’ rugby

Ladies’ rugby continues to grow but Kevin and Peter are still taking on new recruits.

The match on Saturday will be the first competitive game for several new players.

Training is at 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays with food provided afterwards.

Thanks again to those who continue to support the girls by purchasing burgers, etc. from them on Saturdays.

To date we have been able to raise almost $2,000 towards their development fund.

SOFTBALL

MASTERS LEAGUE

DOUBLE headers are on schedule at the Archdeacon William Thompson Park at the Southern Recreation Grounds over the weekend to pitch off second half play on the Masters Softball Association’s 2016 season.

Come Saturday at noon, the winless Corner Boyz will play the Sunryze Shredders and Copa Di Vino Wenemakers Sharks tangle with the A-1 Signs/McDonald Raiders.

Action picks back up at 1:15pm Sunday when two-time consecutive time MSA champions Dozer Heavy Equipment Company’s Pros face Sunryze while the ‘new kids on the blocks’ Copa and Da Warriors clash in the weekend finale.
