Day four of the prestigious 33rd Hugh Campbell Basketball Classic featured the first group of eliminations as the field was reduced to 24 teams.

Queen’s College

Comets - 43

Mary Star Of The Sea

Crusaders - 28

It took nearly a half for the Comets to take control and look like the team they have all season.

Christopher Johnson was the spark off the bench for the Comets with a game high 14 points. Kofiannan King added seven points and five rebounds while Johnathan Walkine scored six. Javaughn Thomas led the Crusaders with eight points and Jarrad Scott scored seven.

There were just eight points and three field goals put up in the first quarter between both teams as the Crusaders took an early lead. After Walkine made a pair at the line, King’s three pointer gave QC an 8-7 lead, but the Crusaders managed to recover and take a 10-7 lead into the half.

The third quarter featured three ties and four lead changes before the Comets went ahead for good. Tied at 12 early in the third, The Comets regained the lead on another Walkine free throw before the Crusaders took it back on a Thomas layup.

Tied again at 15 and then 17, Johnson’s steal and layup gave the Comets a 19-17 lead. The Comets took full advantage of the line and shot 6-7 through a three minute stretch and they closed the quarter on a 12-1 run.

Johnson converted a three-point play, followed directly by another three- point play from Elliot Greenslade. The Comets led 29-18 headed into the fourth quarter.

Teleos Cherubims - 41

Bishop Michael Eldon

Warriors - 38

In a game that went down to the wire, a late three pointer by the Warriors fell short as they exited the tournament.

Arlington Brown led the Cherubims with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Jevaughn Ferguson grabbed 11 rebounds, blocked six shots and scored six while Kenneth Johnson chipped in with eight.

Ysehua Saint led the Warriors with 14 points and Ty Dawkins added seven.

The Warriors took a 9-2 lead early after back-to- back three-point plays from Dawkins, but Teleos responded with the same grit and determination that nearly led them to an upset over CC Sweeting on day one.

Brown’s jumper brought the Cherubims within one, for a 15-14 score at the half.

Teleos opened the second half on a 5-0 run before Saint made a three for the Warriors to stop the run. Both teams traded baskets through an evenly played quarter and Saint’s second three gave the Warriors a 27-26 lead. They took a 29-25 lead into the fourth.

Teleos started the fourth with a three pointer to come within one.

Anytime the Warriors gained breathing room, Teleos would respond. Teleos would tie the game at 35 on an Eamon Collie putback with 2:15 left to play and Brown gave them the go ahead score on the final possession.

Akhepran Scarabs - 35

St Paul’s Saints - 25

Another Bahamas Scholastic Association school avoided elimination in the opening session.

Amos Rolle was the game’s only player to reach double figures with 16 points to lead the Scarabs. Kobe Symonette and Brandon Charles each finished with seven to lead the Saints.

Akhepran outscored St Paul’s 14-2 in second chance points and led by as much as 14 in the contest.

Temple Christian

Suns - 39

Hope Academy

Eagles - 28

A 12-0 run in the first half led the Suns in clinching the final spot of teams to advance to the next round.

Corey Wallace led the Suns with 10 points while Keith Rolle and Daril Davis each finished with eight. Andre Calvert added seven points and eight rebounds. Anthony Penn led Hope Academy with a game high 12 points.

One of the highest scoring first quarters of the tournament, a late three pointer from Rolle, gave TC a 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

TC took a 10-point lead on a Wallace layup, 27-17 at 5:30 mark in the second quarter and never led by less than seven points in the second half.
