Suspect detained after shoot out with police

A MAN was arrested after a shoot out with police in the area of Spence Street, Mason’s Addition on Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred shortly after 10am. Police said they received reports of gunshots being fired in the area of Spence Street and when officers responded, a gunman confronted them and began shooting.

The officers returned fire and the suspect fled on foot, a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force said.

“Police then formed a perimeter in the area and arrested the suspect,” the statement said. “A handgun with two rounds of ammunition was found in the suspect’s possession.”

A short while later, police received a report that a man turned up at the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound and reported that the suspect had shot him earlier in the Mason’s Addition area.

The victim is detained in stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.
