NPBA: Caribs top Elite 70-55, Rockets stun Giants 89-83

THE New Providence Basketball Association resumed its 2015/16 season at the AF Adderley Gymnasium over the weekend. On Saturday night, the College of the Bahamas Caribs blasted the Elite Basketball Club 70-55 and the Pyramid Food Rockets stunned the Commonwealth Bank Giants 89-83.

Caribs 70, Elite Basketball 55

Kemsy Sylvestre poured in a game high 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds in 26 minutes and 49 seconds to lead the College of the Bahamas to victory. Ramon Dames had 12 points and five rebounds to help out, while Justin Smith came off the bench and contributed 12 points.

Jason Stubbs chipped in with eight points, four assists and three rebounds off the bench and Justin Munroe finished with seven points and four rebounds.

The Caribs, coached by Bacchus Rolle, opened an early 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and held onto a 34-30 margin at the half. They extended their lead to 56-44 at the end of the third and wasn’t challenged the rest of the way. Both teams were evenly matched in rebounds (36-36) but Elite Basketball held a 29-21 advantage in turnovers.

For Elite Basketball, Teneas Mackey came off the bench to score 11 points with six rebounds to lead their attack. Carvel Johnson had 10 points and six rebounds and Livigi Forbes added nine points and three rebounds.

Rockets 90, Giants 83

Christorr Stuart canned 23 points with six rebounds in 30 minutes and 49 seconds and Scottie Farrington had 22 points and 14 rebounds in 34:15 as Pyramid Food put together a solid team effort for the win. Tomeko Moxey added 12 points, Rashad Saunders had nine, Tresant Strachan eight with six rebounds and Henderson Curry seven with eight assists.

The Giants led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the Rockets used a 25-16 spurt in the second quarter to go up 38-37 at the half.

In the third quarter, they out-scored the Giants 26-25 and used another 26-21 spurt in the fourth to secure the win. The Giants held a 42-39 advantage on the board, but they made 33 turnovers compared to just 24 by the Rockets.

Commonwealth Bank got 19 points and eight rebounds from Jeffrey Henfield off the bench in 25:13. Michael Bain had 17 points and six rebounds in 27:12 minutes, David Taylor had 11 points, Jarrell Coakley 10 points and 10 rebounds and Tehran Cox helped out with seven points.

The league is scheduled to be back in action onight with another double header.

In the opener at 7:30pm, the Rhythm Rebels play the Double R Services Limited Cleaners and in the feature game at 9pm, the Pirates take on Everybody Wins Legends.
