POLICE arrested five people early on Thursday morning who they believe to be members of a “major drug trafficking ring”.

According to reports, on Wednesday evening officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) began a major operation in eastern New Providence.

Shortly after 6am on Thursday, DEU officers went to a residence on Eastern Road where they searched a Dodge Caravan and discovered 10 crocus sacks containing 341lbs of marijuana.

Four adult males and one adult female, who police believe to be members of a major organised drug trafficking ring, were arrested and taken into custody.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean credited the excellent work from DEU officers for the seizure.

The drugs have an estimated street worth of $341,000. Investigations continue.
