Man held after 57 pounds of marijuana found on mail boat

AN ADULT male from Exuma is in police custody after officers discovered more than 57 pounds of marijuana on a mail boat on Thursday morning.

According to reports, shortly after 11am, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), acting on information, conducted a search of a mail boat at Potter's Cay Dock that had just arrived from Exuma.

During the search of the vessel the officers found three boxes containing 57 pounds of marijuana. 

An adult male of Stuart’s Manor, Exuma, was later taken into custody in connection with the find. The drugs have an estimated street value of $57,000.

Investigations continue.

The seizure occurred hours before DEU officers and their Unites States counterparts discovered 59 packets of suspected cocaine in Grand Bahama.

According to reports, shortly after 2pm, DEU officers and Customs officers made the discovery in a 40ft container at the Grand Bahama Container Port at Freeport.

No arrests were made, however investigations continue.
