BOWLING

FINANCIAL LEAGUE

FINANCIAL League play resumed last night after the holiday break with the top score being a 555 bowled by Sammie Symonette of Strike force. Runner-up MVP was Chavez Thompson of Sunshine Insurance with a 212 high game and a 547 second high set. Greg Taylor of Strike Force downed the pins for a 211 second high game.

The ladies’ MVP of the evening was Joy Lockhart of BTC Night Hawks who dropped the pins for a 204 high game and a 521 high three game set. Lockhart was followed by Xynea Johnson of Sunshine Insurance with a 480 second high set. Andrea Hepburn of Best Deal Kirki Bar toppled the pins for the second high game of 177. 

The team scores of the evening were:

Strike Force def. Rubis Oil Stars 3-0; Leno Corporate Services def. Financial Leaguers 3-0; Sunshine Insurance def. Deloitte & Touche 2-1; Moonlight Strikers def. BTC Night Hawks 2-1 and Forsythe Communications def. Besl Deal Kirki Bar 2-1.

RUGBY

BRU ACTION

THE Bahamas Rugby Union is scheduled to continue its regular season at the Winton Rugby Centre 3pm Saturday with Baillou facing the Buccaneers in a Heineken Cup match. Both clubs are coming off big victories last weekend, so this game is expected to be an exciting one. While Baillou routed Freeport 31-5 in Grand Bahama, Buccaneers knocked out Cuckoos 29-10 in Nassau.

The BRU also announced that its six nations showdown is all set to begin on February 6. Also, the BRU revealed that there’s a part-time job opportunity with RAN (the regional governing body for rugby) as their “media officer”.

The successful applicant can work from home but must be very comfortable with all forms of social and other media as well as having a good working knowledge of our sport.

SOFTBALL

MASTERS

THE Masters Softball League is scheduled to continue its regular season at the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park, Southern Recreation Grounds, this weekend. On Saturday at 11:30am, Copa Di Divno Sharks face A1 McDonalds and, at 2:30pm, the Corner Boys take on the Joshua Knights.

Then on Sunday, McDonalds battle Dozer Heavy Equipment Pros at 1:15pm. In the feature game at 3:15pm, the Corner Boyz meet Da Warriors.

BASKETBALL

NPBA ACTION

THE New Providence Basketball Association hosted a double header at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Wednesday night. In the opener, Pyramid Food Rockets held off Everybody Win Legends 92-87 and, in the feature contest, Commonwealth Bank Giants blew out the Rhythm Rebels 91-65. The league is scheduled to play another double header tonight when the Pirates play the Mail Boat Cybots at 7:30pm. Then, in the feature contest at 9pm, Island Luck Pros meet Athletico Bahamas.

NPWBA ACTION

THE New Providence Women’s Basketball Association is all set to continue its regular season with a double header at the DW Davis Gymnasium Saturday night . In the opener at 7:30pm, Johnson Lady Truckers meet Career Builders Lady Cheetahs and, in the feature game at 8:30pm, Super Value Cybot Queens take on Bommer G Lady Operators.

THROWERS MEET

THE throwing coaches in the various clubs have banded together to put on a series of meets for throwers. The first one for the year will take place 10am Saturday at the College of the Bahamas playing field.

RELAYS

THE Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations is scheduled to hold its National High School Relays at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium starting 1pm Saturday. The meet will provide athletes the opportunity to compete in events from the 4 x 100 metres to the distance medley.

BASEBALL

MAJOR LEAGUE

COMING TO TOWN

MAJOR League Baseball has announced that it will hold a coaching clinic in Nassau - the first of its kind on the island - January 23-24.

MLB, along with the support of the Bahamas Baseball Federation, will host 25 Bahamian coaches at the Junior Baseball League of Nassau’s Field of Dreams at St Andrew’s School, and the event will include the participation of Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar.

CHAMPION

AMATEUR

BOXING SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is scheduled to present its ‘Back on Track’ amateur boxing show 7pm January 30 at the Wulff Road Boxing Square.

The event will showcase amateur boxing teams from New Providence and across the Bahamas.

All amateur boxing clubs are invited to participate. Special recognition will be given to Lennox Boyce, Champion Amateur Boxing Club’s 2015 Amateur Boxer of the Year.
