Two held in car theft ring probe

POLICE are questioning two persons, a man and a woman, who they suspect to be a part of a major car theft ring.

According to reports, around 11am officers of the Western Division took the pair into custody on Wednesday.

Officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said another suspect was charged last week in connection with the theft of nearly one dozen stolen Kia Sportages and a police investigation led them to these two suspects.

He also said police are still looking for other suspects who they believe are a part of the car theft ring.

Five other persons were also arrested by officers from the Southeastern Division on Wednesday for questioning in reference to stolen vehicles and stealing from a vehicle. One stolen vehicle was also recovered.

The investigation continues.

In other crime news, police also arrested 25 persons and ticketed 17 drivers for various criminal offences.

Officers of the Selective Enforcement Unit, during an operation on Wednesday, arrested 25 persons for questioning in reference to a number of offences including armed robbery, possession of dangerous drugs, stolen vehicles and possession of ammunition.
