Five players to watch in Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic

STACY LEWIS

World ranking: 3

A consistent force in women’s golf, the top-ranked American was the LPGA player of the year in 2014 and had a glittering amateur career. Lewis, who turns 31 next month, is 5ft 5in and has two major titles to her name. A member of the 2015 US Solheim Cup winning team, she finished runner-up to Jessica Korda in the Bahamas in 2014. Career earnings top $10m and she has spent 229 weeks in the world’s top 10.

MICHELLE WIE

World ranking: 30

With career earnings of almost $5m, 26-year-old Michelle Wie has lived with the expectation of great things since qualifying for the US Open at age of 10. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, ‘The Big Wiesy’ turned pro in 2005 but tournament wins proved elusive for the gallery favourite 6ft 1in American. However she won her first major in 2014 (US Open) and rose to sixth in the world rankings before falling back last year.

ANNA NORDQVIST

World ranking: 14

The top ranked European player in the field this week, the 28-year-old Swede is now a seasoned campaigner. She burst onto the scene in 2009, winning on only her fifth start on tour - the only major she has won - and earning a Solheim Cup spot. The 6ft Nordqvist had to wait five years before winning again and she took a tournament victory last year. Orlando based, she has career earnings of $5.4m.

INBEE PARK

World ranking: 2

The player with the most major titles to her name (seven) in the field for the Ocean Club. The 27-year-old South Korean arrived in the Bahamas last year as the number one following a stellar 2013 when she won three successive majors. Based in California, she won the first of her two US Opens in 2008 and last year added two further majors. At 5ft 6in and on last year’s form she will be favourite to win on Paradise Island.

LEXI THOMPSON

World ranking: 4

Golf runs in the Thompson family with two playing brothers and since winning her first tour event in 2011 the tall American has moved steadily up the world rankings. She won her first major in 2014 and now, at the age of 20, has career earnings of $4.5m. Last year brought her a sixth LPGA tour win and a place in the Solheim Cup.
