Time to work it out

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Thank you for allowing me space for this open letter to Dr Hubert Minnis. Mrs Loretta Butler -Turner and Mr Branville McCartney.

Good Morning All,

I try to keep relatively up to date on all things happening in The Bahamas and I am completely disgusted with politics and politicians in general and the current state of the FNM in particular.

No right-thinking individual truly wants the status quo to continue - ie the current government has proven spectacularly unable to handle and/or guide the fate of The Bahamas - and yet, the FNM are doing everything in their power to destroy any chance they have (and it’s a golden one) of becoming the next government.

Cries of a convention, talk of a non-voting one, jealousies – all this is rubbish. Dr Minnis and Mrs Butler-Turner – have a voting convention to settle the leadership once and for all.

A true leader does not fear competition or challenge – it should serve to up his (or her) game if anything.

If Dr Minnis wins, then Mrs Butler-Turner, if you truly care about the fate of the Bahamas as you say you do, then you will unite behind and support Dr Minnis and ensure all your supporters do likewise for the good of our country.

If Mrs Butler-Turner wins, then the same should go for Dr Minnis, he must recognise that while an intelligent man, he lacks some fundamental cohesive factor that unites the party and therefore, he and his supporters, must throw their weight behind Mrs Butler-Turner.

Then let it be the end, truly, of all disputes. Work it out people, we’re all supposedly adults, isn’t that what we tell our children, WORK IT OUT?

Both individuals, please heed me, there must be no further in-fighting, name calling or grandstanding from yourself or your supporters - leave that to the other party (and I’m not referring to the green one).

The FNM needs to return to its roots and core values - show the people you are capable and ready to lead our country and that you will put country first - not self-aggrandisement.

To the DNA party and its leader Mr McCartney, I send the same message, acknowledge that you cannot win the election and unite behind the FNM.

Whatever disputes you might have had in the past are simply that, in the past.

Do not go down the same road of arrogance and self-interest. Flexing your muscles to show you can split the vote is in no one’s best interest and will leave you out in the cold yet again. If all our politicians were truly interested in the best for the Bahamian people (to borrow from the song), what a wonderful world it could be!

Please, please, all of you, change your thinking to “us” versus “me”...our Bahamas deserves the very best!

The FNM roots and core values are exactly what they are showing the Bahamas and its people at this time. They and this includes Mr: McCartney have no vision to move this Country forward. from what you have written you support Butler Turner. You may be one of those persons who believe the FNM can do no wrong and the PLP can do no right.
