THE Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) will remain closed to the public until Monday as officials continue efforts to repair a faulty air-conditioning unit at its Thompson Boulevard offices.
In a statement on Tuesday, officials said that repairs are expected to commence later this week and to be conclude by July 18.
On Friday, officials confirmed that parts had been purchased to repair the air-conditioning unit and that they were expecting them to arrive in New Providence this week.
MOEST has been closed to the public since Friday.
Employees at MOEST and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, co-tenants in the Thompson Boulevard office, have endured intense heat and difficult working conditions for nearly a month.
The Tribune reported MOEST employees and those at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, a sub-tenant of the building, had to vacate the building around 11am last Wednesday to escape rising temperatures inside.
MOEST instituted a shortened work day early last week at the office, from 9am to 1pm, to help with the arduous conditions.
The Thompson Boulevard office complex is owned and operated by the National Insurance Board (NIB).

The problem is they only repair things. If there was proper management they would MAINTAIN things. The management of this country is an embarrassment.

Lol same thing at the port authority. Notice board stated due to air conditioning not working department will close at 1pm daily until further notice. Bahamas government departments really must be held to a higher standard!

This is incompetence at its worst.
If the Landlord (National Insurance) had a proper a/c maintenance agreement in place then, as part of that agreement, the a/c maintenance contractor would be mandated to have all parts to repair the a/c on island. This would increase the cost of maintenance but what is the true cost of having this large building closed? What is the cost of getting out the mold which must be growing in the heat? What is the cost of the employees becoming sick? What is the cost in the disruption in our already dysfunctional educational system?
The Landlord Tenant agreement is also incestuous as the Landlord is the government and the tenant is the Government. So no one complains about anything.
