National beach soccer select team fall 8-1 to Pisa

THE Bahamas men’s national beach soccer select team played their third and final Italian friendly on Sunday, losing 8-1 to Pisa in Pisa, Italy.

The result may have been a mark of fatigue as Team Bahamas played three games in three days,  including training sessions on the mornings of all games.

The team’s previous matches were against sides of similar quality. The Bahamas lost its first game 7-5 to Lazio Beach as Lesly St Fleur had four goals while team captain Gavin Christie scored the 5th.

The second match put the ‘Rake & Scrape Boyz’ up against European champion Viareggio Beach Soccer. Viareggio won the match 5-3, but not before Team Bahamas took a physical match to the local side. The goal scorers in that match were Kyle Williams, Gavin Christie and Timothy Munnings Jr.

After Sunday’s match against Pisa, with Lesly St Fleur recording another hat trick, the team headed back to the training camp in Basel, Switzerland. The team is scheduled to take on the Swiss, Tahitian and Italian national teams in a series of friendlies over the next two weeks. Following that, the team will travel to Estonia to take on the Estonian national team.
