Vacation Bible School in Exuama celebrates the ‘Joy in Jesus’

By VANESSA C SMITH

VACATION Bible School (VBS) is a time when children come together to learn more about the great commission as stated in Matthew 28:19: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

The children learn Bible verses, the importance of teamwork, participate in art and crafts, and even develop vocational skills. Let us not forget that they play games and have tons of fun and laughter. They literally cannot wait to return the following day.

This year, Rev Stephen Smith and the team led by Lorraine Iva Rolle hosted VBS under the theme “Joy In Jesus” in Exuma. Daily lessons included topics like “A Room for Praise”, during which the children were exhorted to serve the Lord with celebration; “A Room on a Roof”, which focused on children being grateful and thankful; “A Room without a Roof”, which focused on God as a healer and deliverer; “An Upstairs Room”, which taught about God’s faithfulness, and “Under a Roof” with the main focus on faith and God’s will being done in one’s life.

One-on-one talks were held with officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force and nurses from the Department of Public Health

The children were provided with lunch daily, went on a field trip, and received certificates of completion at the end of the programme. Our children are our future and we must always ensure that they are taught godly principles, good ethics and morals to further develop our community and country.
