THE Bahamas Judo Federation recently attended the US Judo Junior Open, taking a contingent of 31 athletes and 11 administrators.

It is the largest trip ever undertaken by Bahamas Judo as it was deemed necessary to gain athlete and administrative experience to host the upcoming 2017 CARIFTA and Commonwealth Youth Games.

Three bronze medals were won at the event, including Asia Bullard, Deleon Sweeting and Rachel Rolle.

Other team members were from the various clubs in Nassau and Abaco.

The US Judo Junior Open had over 700 competitors from 23 different countries.

“I am pleased with the results,” said D’Arcy Rahming Jr, head of the delegation and head coach. “We had excellent performances from the team with several losing in medal rounds. We defeated a lot of capable opponents that had significantly more experience than us. We are on track for an excellent performance next year.”

“I am most pleased with how the team conducted themselves in a disciplined manner,” said VP Michelle Williams, head of administration.

“ We received many positive comments from tournament officials to hotel staff about how mannerly our team is. They were good ambassadors.”

All matches were filmed along with team activities. The BJF will produce a series of webisodes as well as a congratulatory booklet to help educate the public on judo.
