A man that has beaten the odds

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Last night, Hon Andrew Holness, Jamaica’s JLP Leader, whose leadership came under question time and time again from his own party members, won the election against Portia Simpson Miller and the JLP, a party that was predicted to win by a landslide by just about every forecast done!

I have watched this election very closely because the similarities between Dr Minnis and Mr Holness, their rise from poverty, their successes in life, and the opposition they had to deal with, within their very own party was uncanny!

Like Minnis, Holness was subjected to a challenge for leadership but a convention was held and he came out the victor!

One article published by RJR news in Jamaica on August 11th, 2014 said “News had emerged earlier in the day that Mr Holness could be replaced as Opposition leader, as the internal squabble over his leadership intensified. Derrick Smith, Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Representatives, “admitted that some members of the Party had questioned the leadership of Mr Holness; however, he said there had been no challenge, “because it was not necessary”.

He declared that the leadership of Mr Holness, like that of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, “will always be questioned...because it will never be perfect to everyone.”

Congratulations to Mr Holiness and to the JLP!

Never under-estimate the power of a man who had proven by his own life that he can beat the odds!
