TENNIS

JR TEAM TRAVELLING

THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association has announced its boys and girls national teams that will be participating in the World Junior Tennis Competition in San Salvador, El Salvador, March 11-16.

The Boys’ Team consists of Kofi Bowe (Freeport), Jacobi Bain and Denali Nottage (Freeport) and the Girls’ Team is comprised of Elana Mackey, Donesha Gibson (Freeport) and Emma Weech.  Teams are captained by Hartie Johnson of Jame’s Cistern, Eleuthera, for the boys and Bradley Bain for the girls.

The BLTA is pleased to have represented a team of  players who not only hail from New Providence, but three from Freeport and  three from New Providence, in addition to having the boys’ coach from Eleuthera. All team members have served on national teams before and some as many as three appearances.

Coach Johnson has served as national team coach several years ago and has returned to the national tennis stage to “give back” to the sport that he loves so much.

Coach Bain continues to lend his coaching expertise to The Association and coached last year’s Girls’ Team to the finals. This is truly indicative of the pool of talented junior tennis players and coaches we have in The Bahamas. The Association is continuing its efforts in growing the sport and taking tennis to the next level.

Last year, the Bahamas girls’ team emerged as finalists at this event and our boys’ team, semi-finalists. This year’s team is equally talented and we expect a good performance from them.

Eighteen participating nations are expected to converge in El Salvador, including Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominican Rep., El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.

The team is scheduled to leave on Wednesday and return home on March 17.
