Officer held over drugs find at prison gate

THREE people are in police custody, including a corrections officer, in connection with two separate drug busts on Wednesday.

In the first incident, shortly after 1pm, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on intelligence, conducted a search of the corrections officer at the entrance to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

During the search, DEU officers found a taped package containing just over 10 ounces of marijuana in his possession. The suspect was taken into custody.

In the second incident, shortly after 6pm, police arrested two men at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

According to police, the two men were travelling to the United States when United States Customs and Border Patrol officials detained them at the US Pre-Clearance Departure Lounge at the airport following the discovery of just over 65 pounds of cocaine in their luggage. The two men were handed over to police.

Investigations into both incidents continue.
