46 Haitian immigrants arrested in Exuma

FORTY SIX suspected Haitian illegal migrants are being transported to the Coral Harbour Base in south western New Providence by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on Saturday.

The Haitians - 36 men, seven women and three children - were found aboard a wooden vessel that had landed on Farmer's Cay, Exuma, on Saturday morning and were arrested by Exuma Police.

The Defence Force vessel P-44, under the command of Chief Petty Officer Ross Seymour, was on routine patrol in the area and is expected at Coral Harbour with the Haitians around 8pm.

....... The Haitian invasion continues unabated as Bahamas celebrates more vessels ......

Thousands of illegal Haitians get through as statistics show only about 10% of incoming drugs or illegals are actually apprehended.

Successive governments are too compromised to act as they themselves created this problem by offering $200.00 incentives which is the equivalent of a years income to Haitians for any Haitians caught and repatriated and those not apprehended offering a trade of citizenship to Haitians for votes.

This has been the reality for decades. Politicians have destroyed our country!

It is time for Bahamians to take our country back from devious politicians.

Why are illegal migrants still being brought into New Providence where the majority of the population resides? Besides being a major health and security risk, why is the Detention Centre even on New Providence? God granted us 700 islands, rocks and cays, why not create a Detention Centre on one of them?

Excellent point .............. why is the HM Prison still in Nassau??????? All long term convicts should be on an isolated island like Alcatraz

I never understood why the illegals are brought into Nassau on a defence boat and then sent back home on a plane. this is very expensive. They should also be able to turn the boats around , They must have a reason, because it seems not to make any sense.

Now we have the big ro-ro boat that can carry back 2000 Highshuns at a time ...................... BOL

Wishful thinking! The ro-ro boat will join the rest, stationary at Prince George dock. Government is not serious about dealing with Illegal Haitians. The first sensible thing they would have done is impose stiff fines on employers and people harboring illegals as a deterrent. See that happen yet?

Exuma, just like Abaco and New Providence have caused their own problems as far as illegal immigrants are concerned. Bahamian employers are the culprit here, the illegals are simply responding what they perceive as a work demand made by Bahamians. So, we are the blame for this!!!!

Agreed. Haitians are responding to perceived demand. However, cocaine smuggling is likewise based on consumption and demand but we don't see government fining with what amounts to a slap on wrists!

Individuals caught smuggling drugs, as well as those caught dealing and consuming illegal drugs are sentenced with stiff penalties as deterrents to others.

This nonsensical cozy relationship with government and Haitians is the main catalyst of our problem.

Although employers are a major part of the problem, successive governments complicity and lack of conviction in dealing with the situation adds 70% of the incentive for illegals to repeatedly smuggle themselves into our country.
