A BAHAMIAN national team consisting of seven athletes and a coach are competing this weekend at the Ocean State International Judo tournament in Rhode Island.

The tournament normally features about 600 competitors from several countries and the north eastern states of the United States.

“This is a great preparation tournament for those athletes that hope to be participating in CARIFTA and the Commonwealth Games,” said D’Arcy Rahming Jr, who travels as team coach.

“We are trying to get high potential athletes as much international experience as possible.

“The Ocean State has great competition and a friendly environment.”

The team is captained by Kentico Forbes and Cynthia Rahming, both athletes on the senior circuit.

Members of the team represent several different schools, including Jasmine Russell (13), St Augustine’s College; Davante Sweeting (13), C H Reeves; Jeremy Misiewicz (16), Genesis Academy; Faith Rae (14), Queen’s College; and Ethan Cuffy (15), St. Annes.

The tournament precedes the Bahamas Open, which will take place on Saturday, May 21, at Holy Family Catholic Church Activity Centre on Robinson Road.

Bahamas Judo will be hosting a talent selection summer camp beginning in June.
