Eagles Nest, Macedonia and Golden Gates take early leads

THE Eagles Nest, Macedonia and Golden Gates have taken the early lead in their respective best-of-three basketball playoff series in the Baptist Sports Council’s 2016 Basketball League.

On Saturday at the Baillou Hills Sports Complex, the Eagles Nest A team knocked off the Good Samaritan B team, while Macedonia took care of Mekeddish Ministries 44-36 in the pair of 19-and-under divisional matches.

In the men’s division, Golden Gates routed the Eagles Nest 36-25 and Macedonia pounded God Squad 52-30.

All four series will continue with games two on Saturday and if necessary, they will also play game three. The best-of-three championship series will be played on Saturday, May 28.

Eagles Nest A 47, Good Samaritan B 40: Renaldo Joseph canned 12 points and both Lorenzo Archer and Ricarno Nixon came up with 11 each in the win for the Eagles Nest A 19-and-under team.

Christopher Johnson scored a game high 14 points and LeVanti Roberts added eight in the loss.

Macedonia 44, Mekaddish 36: DeVontee Gibson canned a game high 14 points and both Troy Marshall and Alexander Stubbs had seven in the win for Macedonia’s 19-and-under.

Rick Sands scored 13 and both Malik Curtis and Philip Brown had four in a losing effort.

Golden Gates 36, Eagles Nest 25: Dwayne Murray scored eight and Samuel Johnson added six in the win for Golden Gates men.

Renaldo Joseph had a game high 10 and Lorenzo Archer added five in the loss.

Macedonia 52, God Squad 30: Shaquille Reid had nine points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Macedonia men. Lerecus Armbrister, Patrick Brice and Delano Knowles all contributed eight.

AJ Cambridge had 12 and Avery Walker five in the losing effort.
