A VETERAN ZNS radio broadcaster was shot multiple times and killed early on Thursday morning near Bonefish Pond.

The shooting death happened shortly before 10am off Cowpen Road and is the 50th murder for the year, according to The Tribune's records.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Leon Bethel said officers from the Carmichael Road Police Station were on routine patrol near Bonefish Pond when they made the discovery.

"They were checking the area around 9.55am, when they saw a vehicle they thought to be suspicion. It was a grey Durango jeep. They decided to check further and about 100 feet away from the vehicle was the body of a man lying on the ground," ACP Bethel said.

"The victim ... has what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the body. We are in the process of completing the crime scene work to determine the valuable evidence we can get from this area to move forward with this investigation. We have no further information at this time. We don't know who the victim is, we are seeking to identify him."

ACP Bethel said the body was in "good condition" which leaves them to believe the victim was not there for a long time.

Police have not identified the victim but The Tribune understands he is 48-year-old Scott Richards, a Radio Announcer for ZNS Inspiration 107.9 FM.

ACP Bethel said police needs the public's assistance in solving this murder as well as preventing future murders.

"We need the Bahamian people to partner with the police. Everything that is going on in the country is affecting everyone, not just the police. Any crime that happens is one too much so we need the public to have confidence in police and provide tips," ACP Bethel said.

"We are solving lots of matters. The problem is, although we are solving the matters, we do not want the matters to happen in the first place. We can prevent them from happening, so we won't have grieving families."
