Tropical Storm Karl forms in eastern Atlantic

TROPICAL Storm Karl formed in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean on Thursday night but forecasters say it currently poses no threat to land.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Karl is moving west with maximum sustained winds near 45mph. Little change in strength is expected over the next two days. Karl is centered about 640 miles west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands on Friday morning.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect related to the storm.
