In the pink? Rawson Square is a little off-colour

BAHAMIANS and tourists in downtown Nassau have been noticing that something is a little off-colour in Rawson Square these days.

According to regulations, all buildings within the historic square are required to be painted in the same shade of pink. However, general wear and tear is being blamed for rendering the three landmark buildings - the Senate, the House of Assembly and the court connected to the Supreme Court - in different hues.

Particularly pronounced is the court building on the east side of the square, which has turned more peach than pink, while the House of Assembly is a lighter shade of pink than the Senate.

The top of the Senate building also appears a different shade to the bottom.

Ministry of Works and Urban Development officials confirmed on Monday that plans are underway to correct the colour scheme. Colin Higgs, the Permanent Secretary, said his office is addressing the matter, with plans already being discussed to paint the complex in the “correct colour code”. The ministry did not offer any timing as to when the changes are to be made.

Something to watch: while the rest of the world is battling the Zika virus, over 5,000 cases of Chikagunya virus has been reported in Deli. This disease is also spread by mosquitoes who breed in free standing water. While the Zika and Chikagunya are not life threatening, authorities are concern what will happen when persons get both of the viruses combined.

Comrade Taxpayers, handle this one! Oh, I'm sorry, someone gone give me the wrong shade da color pinks.
Why the hell not. If we got's Paul Major running things at Kanaval and James Smith doing his thing over at Lucky Claims, just maybe the PLP cabinet has another special political appointee Envoy in mind to go wagging they tail over at, "The Dispute Resolution Fund Repaints Color Mismatch Government Buildings (TDRFRCMGB)?"

Paint??? Have you checked out the condition of the landscaping on the North side of Rawson Square lately, the weeds, and litter that is strewn all over the place? And what is up with all the drop cords that are stretched across Rawson Square. What a mess! Y'all can't be serious. Is this your solution to getting power to the spotlights to light up the Bahamian legends?? As a Bahamian who visited Nassau recently, I was embarrassed!

And Bay Street East of East St. is nasty looking. Building owners need to do something with their buildings. Paint them and clean them up or bulldoze them and create a park or tourist attraction.

Bay Street is dying a sloooooooow death!
