Baptist women celebrate a ‘Lenten Tea Affair’

MEMBERS of the Bahamas National Baptist Women’s Convention tea enjoyed a time of fellowship, camaraderie and light-hearted competition during the fifth annual Lenten Tea Party & Fashion Show.

Under the theme “A Lenten Tea Affair”, the event was held in the Charles H Thompson Memorial Centre at the Transfiguration Baptist Church.

According to organisers, the event was a special time for women to come together in a positive, relaxed, Christian environment, while sipping a good cup of tea. Old friends were reunited and new friendships were formed.

“Ladies had the opportunity to share with their friends about the goodness of God in their lives, their homes and communities,” the organisers said. “It was also a time to savour the ambiance, laugh with others, and enjoy the food, the teas, the hat parade and the fashion show. The emcee for the event was Minister Zelrona Mackey.”

The highlight of the event was the table decorating competition, which was won by “The Bahamian Thing” table which was designed by members of the Faith United Baptist Church. The first, second and third runner-up respectively were St Mark’s Native Baptist Church with “A Cure For Cancer”; Mount Calvary Baptist Cathedral with “Spring Fever” and Judea Baptist Church with “Tis So Sweet”.

The Bahamas National Baptist Women’s Department is currently headed by Rev Sabrina Pinder.

The aim of the tea party was to bring Baptist women from all churches together for the glory of God. It also sought to raise funds to help those in need. Some of the funds raised will be used to assist persons in Andros and Grand Bahama with hurricane relief.

Rev Pinder thanked those churches represented for their support of the event. She also applauded the hard work of the committee who helped to put the Tea Party & Show together, and thanked the vendors and volunteers who helped make the event a success.

She encouraged all women present to get involved, if they were not already, and attend the meetings held by the Bahamas National Women’s Department.

“These meetings help women to not only be faith-based women in their homes, but to also build better communities, and hence, to build our nation – one that we all want to see grow as a Christian nation.”

Both the emcee and the president thanked the host church, Transfiguration Baptist Church, for supporting the Baptist Women’s Department and their initiatives.

“Transfiguration Baptist Church has been and continues to be a church that helps to bring individuals into fellowship with Christ Jesus, and into responsible church members through equipping believers, enriching persons and evangelising. As such, they were delighted to host the event and are grateful to partake in helping women to impact homes, communities and the nation,” a statement by the church said.

The Baptist Women’s Department seeks to help the development of the whole woman. Additionally, it tries to assist the needy and elderly, particularly on the Family Islands. According to Pastor Pinder, “This year so far we have given to Acklins, Andros, Abaco, Crooked Island, Exuma, Cat Island and Grand Bahama.”

The intent is to help many more women.

“We try our best to send food items to as many Family Islands as possible. Last year we sent to San Salvador, Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Cat Island and Mayaguana. We give to the needy here in Nassau and the young women as a part of our quarterly outreach. We would wish to one day get our monthly food distribution going. Monies are small, but our God is great and He has always made provision for us as we travelled,” said Pastor Pinder.
