Commonwealth gift to schools

THE Ministry of Education received a $50,000 donation from Commonwealth Bank on Thursday to go towards the the needs of the public school system.

The donation brought the all-Bahamian, publicly held bank's contributions to education to more than $2m.

"With this year's $50,000 donation, we redouble the bank's commitment to education," said Ian Jennings, bank president.

"We are pleased to have been able to meet with the Minister of Education Jeffrey Lloyd to discuss the programmes he believes will make a difference in the lives of young Bahamians."

Commonwealth Bank also sponsors the Emerging Leadership Scholars programme at the University of The Bahamas, a half million dollar initiative providing scholarships for promising students expected to play a leadership role in business, banking and community affairs. Contributions to date for this programme total $350,000.

Is that some of the high interest loans profits they are giving away in the form of cheap black and white books, pencils and rulers?? ......... smdh
