It would be interesting to see what Bahamian retailers say about their Christmas holiday sales. The US is reporting that their retail holiday sales are up 5% to $671 Billion dollars. But the increase in sales was not necessarily due to increase purchases but less discounting. Because of the strong economy reta did not find deep discounts necessary on hard goods. But clothing was still off and had bargin prices.

And more shoppers chose to go to the malls than last year rather than shopping online. Much to the delight of stores like Macy’s and Target where persons also bought more items for the home.

Merry Christmas to all my colleagues on the Tribune comment pages.
Yes John, hopefully people are finally waking up and realizing that the more people they put out of a job (by for example using the self checkout at Walmart) then the less people there are with money to patronize whatever business they themselves are employed in.

Hello dear ones, more shoppers chose to go to the malls than last year rather than shopping online. Much to the delight of stores like Macy’s and Target where persons also bought more items for the home.
