NEW BBF EXECUTIVES

On January 18, the Bahamas Bowling Federation elected Sonith ‘Kemosabee’ as the new president, replacing Joanne Woodside-Powell.

Joining Lockhart on the executive board for the next two years are Yule Hoyte as first vice president, Ryan Davis as second vice president, Ricardo Rolle as treasurer, Antonio Thomas as assistant treasurer, Cynthia Edgecombe as secretary, Uchenna Delva as assistant secretary, Leon Geraham as chaplin and Alfredo Burrows as assistant chaplin.

Woodside-Powell will also sit on the board as a non-voting member of the team. The team was voted in unopposed and therefore they have the full confidence of the bowlers.  The AGM was well attended by bowlers and many are excited with the new team heading the federation for the next two years.

Bowling, (as a sport), is campaigning over the next few years to become an Olympic sport and Lockhart will be lending his voice (to the international body) in their quest for bowling to be recognised at the highest level.

The team comes in with a new mandate and high ambitions as they take over the federation at an important time when we see a renewed interest in the sport.

Critical to their success will be the continued improvement in youth bowling, which has been introduced in the government junior and senior high schools.

Also high on the president’s agenda is the inclusion of the Banker’s League in the federation.  He has also indicated that fundraising will be one of the hallmarks of his administration.

Lockhart believes that his team is a good one with a mix of veteran bowlers and “new blood” to the executive management team (Rolle, Thomas, Edgecombe and Delve are new to front line federation management).  Also on this administration “plate” are changes to the federation bowling constitution and how we can find ways and means to “get the Grand Bahama” bowlers back into the “fold”.

BOA

CONDOLENCES

BAHAMAS Olympic Committee president Wellington Miller extended condolences on behalf of the BOC to the family, friends and sporting associates of the late Roosevelt ‘Starter’ Thompson who died on Sunday.

Thompson was part of the management team of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India and a longtime sports administrator and enthusiast.

“‘Starter’, as we affectionately called him, showed great respect and had great relationships with all athletes and sports managers,” Miller said.

“He was always pressing us to do better.  He was a great fan and booster of all sports, particularly track and field.

“He was one of those who shouldered the burden of improving sports in The Bahamas.”

Miller said he believes that all organisations that Thompson belonged to will surely miss his wise counsel, his friendship and his loyalty. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
