FUNERAL SERVICE

LAST RITES FOR

‘Mr Starter’

THE funeral service for the late Roosevelt ‘Mr Starter’ Thompson, is scheduled for 11am Friday, February 10 at the New Covenant Baptist Church on the East-West Highway.His body will be interred in Woodlawn Gardens.

Thompson was a member of the Bahamas Association of Certified Officials (BACO) and the USTFA where he served as a “starter” for the races. He also travelled in the capacity as the team manager for a number of Bahamas national track and field teams, especially those that competed in the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

ROAD RACE

GHS ROADRACE

THE Government High School is all set to hold a Fun Run/Walk starting at 6am on Saturday.

The event is in aid of a new school bus. The entry fee is $15 and it includes a t-shirt. Entry-forms are available at the school.

There will be trophies and medals for age-group winners and there will be a souse-out after the event from 7-10am with pig feet, chicken and turkey souse all on sale for $10.

NPBA ACTION

Mr Ship It Freight Regulators pulled off the victory in the lone game played in the New Providence Basketball Association at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Regulators knocked off the Pirates 89-82 as Gameliel Rose came off the bench and pumped in a game high 26 points, shooting just 5-for-14 from the field, but canning 16 of his 24 shots from the foul line. He also had eight rebounds and a block shot in 19 minutes.

Eugene Bain helped out with 24 points, 17 rebounds and four assists; Leonardo Lightbourne had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals and Trujillo Darville added nine points as well.

In a losing effort, Kevin Wright Jr had 17 points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal; Kronoff Dean also had 17 points; Domonique Fernander had 125 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block; Tevin Hudson had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals and Matthew Leon chipped in with 12 points as well.

TENNIS

JR TEAM OFF TO

WORLD JRS

On Saturday, two teams comprising of three boys and three girls will travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to participate in the World Junior Tennis Competition pre-qualifying event.

The players, who are all in the under-14 division, are Kofie Bowe, Denali Nottage, Ryan Fox, Emma Weech, Perjae Major and Kaylee Kanuka.

All of our juniors have represented the Bahamas in the past and the Bahamas has had a few success stories in this competition,

Many nations are expected to compete and the top two boys and girls teams will advance to the final being held in April.

The national coaches travelling with the players are Ceron Rolle for the girls and Ricardo Demeritte for the boys.

The team, which is expected to include some of the parents and family members, are slated to return home on February 12.
