THE Bahamas Catholic Board of Education (CBE) Primary Schools 2016/17 Basketball Championships got underway yesterday at the Loyola Hall on Gladstone Road.

The season kicked off last month with participating schools St Cecilia’s School Strikers, Sts Francis & Joseph School Shockers, Xavier’s Lower School Giants and St Thomas More School Sparks.

A dynamic sports programme and healthy competition amoung CBE schools encapsulates CBE’s commitment to developing the whole child – intellectually, physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Sports are integral to the growth of all CBE students.

“The basketball tournament allows the children to compete in organised competition,” said coach Ricardo Freemantle, physical education, Sts Francis & Joseph School. “Our games help to promote discipline and teamwork.”

The championship finals will pit reigning champions Sts Francis & Joseph Shockers against the St Cecilia’s Strikers in the girls’ division.

The St Thomas More Sparks boys’ team will defend their title against the St Cecilia’s Strikers.

Game 2 of the CBE Primary Schools Basketball championships series is scheduled for Thursday.

All games will take place at Loyola Hall, Gladstone Road. The entrance fee for the games is $3.
