TWO Grand Bahama men, accused of the theft of a $50,000 vessel over the weekend, were charged in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Kingston Saunders and Kirk Haven appeared in court three before Magistrate Rengin Johnson on charges of stealing and receiving.

It is alleged that between July 14 and 15 in Freeport, the men stole a 1982 30-ft Rybo runner vessel valued at $50,000, the property of Larry Nelson.

It is also alleged on the same date, the men dishonestly received a Rybo runner vessel with two 250 Yamaha engines, knowing that it was obtained as a result of an offence.

Magistrate Johnson asked the accused whether they wanted the matter heard in the Supreme Court or in Magistrate’s Court.

Saunders and Haven elected summary trial in the lower court. Counsel did not represent them, and both pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing and receiving.

The men were denied bail due to previous antecedents and were remanded for trial to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in New Providence until October 10.
