Following an opening game win, the Bahamas’ losing streak at the WBSC’s XII Junior Women’s Softball World Championship was extended to three yesterday.

The Bahamas lost 12-1 to Australia as group play continued yesterday at the Eddie Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Florida.

Mia Turner finished 2-2 while Sari Albury, Kendalia Turner and Shawnte Curtis all went 1-2 at the plate. Curtis drove in K. Turner on an RBI single in the fifth inning for the team’s only run of the game.

Australia’s Kandra Lamb delivered 10 strikeouts in the win while Antonia Cooper was tagged with the loss.

Australia took a 1-0 lead in the first top half of the first inning while the Bahamas struggled at the plate with three strikeouts to retire the side.

Australia broke the game open in the second and loaded the bases with their first three batters. Natasha Holt hit into a possible double play but there was an errant throw to first base which allowed them to score the second round. After a missed fly ball, Australia drove in another run to take a 4-0 lead. A line drive to short stop turned into a double play to end the inning. The Bahamas again struggled at the plate with a strikeout, groundout and strikeout.

In the third inning, Australia added another five runs and built a 9-0 advantage at the end of the inning. The Bahamas struck out again on the side headed into the fourth.

The Bahamas finally held Australia scoreless in the top of the fourth inning. The Bahamas finally got a runner on base when K. Turner singled to left field. M. Turner laid down a bunt and just beat out the throw to first, placing a running in scoring position for the first time all game. Curtis singled to shortstop for the RBI.

The Bahamas will close out their round robin play today when they take on Japan at 6:30pm.
