THE students of Stuart Manor Primary School in Exuma enjoyed a true Jamaica experience yesterday to commemorate Commonwealth Day, decorating their school with the Jamaican flag and the national colours of green, black and yellow.

Principal Joy Burrows and teacher Crystal McIntosh-Ferguson wanted the students to gain new knowledge about other Commonwealth countries.

Each student wore a white shirt with Jamaica printed on the front, custom designed for the occasion. They learnt about the history of the country and also practiced cultural dance arrangements.

The table was spread with native Jamaican dishes including ackee and codfish, bammie, plantain, festivals, gizzada and chicken patties.

Jamaica’s motto, “Out of Many, One People”, encourages natives of Commonwealth nations to stand united and focused for the betterment of each country and people. The theme of Commonwealth Day was “A Peace Building Commonwealth”.
