POLICE CAR PARKED IN HANDICAPPED SPOT

By MORGAN ADDERLEY

THE Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating an incident involving a patrol car that was parked in a handicapped spot at a local bank off Wulff Road.

The investigation was sparked after a photo, which was sent to The Tribune by a concerned citizen, showed the patrol car parked in the designated handicapped parking space at Scotiabank on Wulff Road and Jerome Avenue. The incident occurred shortly after 2 pm on Tuesday.

The concerned citizen expressed disgust that police officers are not setting "a good example" for the public by using such a space, and hoped the sharing of this photo would "discourage others who frequently and selfishly do the same thing at other commercial enterprises."

When contacted for comment, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said that it is not RBPF policy for officers to use disabled parking spots. However in cases of police emergency, such as an investigation, officers may park wherever is necessary. Senior ACP Dean promised to inquire about the circumstances surrounding this incident.
