CHARLES Bain will be asked to become a major contributor to the Robert Morris University Colonials men’s basketball programme immediately as a true freshman.

Bain has started both of the Colonials’ exhibition contests as they prepped for the regular season which opens November 10.

The 6’8” forward struggled from the field in game one - a 73-70 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles but rebounded for a more impressive showing in game two. He scored nine points and dished three assists in the Colonials’ 78-61 win over St Vincent.

Bain committed to the Colonials in April out of St John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. He is a part of a major roster overhaul for Robert Morris which includes a recruiting class featuring five freshman, a pair of junior college transfers, a transfer that will have to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules and two graduate transfers.

“As a coaching staff we feel we’ve added a strong mix of student-athletes that will compete on a daily basis,” head coach Andrew Toole said.

“A lot of these individuals will have the opportunity to earn playing time in our rotation. I’m excited about the group collectively, and individually they each bring unique skill sets to the table.”

Robert Morris opens up the regular season 7pm on November 10 on the road against Ohio State.

The Colonials finished 14-19 last season and lost in the semifinals of the Northeastern Conference tournament.

Bain, a Grand Bahama native, was a member of the St. George’s Jaguars programme before leaving for the United States and Sunrise Christian Academy. At the national team level, he was a member of the 2013 Centrobasket U17 team that finished fifth in Puerto Rico. He averaged 9.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He was also a member of the select squad that competed against the Nike EYBL elite recruits in August 2015.
