THE PRESS BOX: Circle the wagons

By INIGO 'NAUGHTY' ZENICAZELAYA

THERE is not much to hang your hat on when it comes to the Cowboys, they have been playing some ugly football recently.

But, for arguments sake, let’s say they miraculously got things turned around and started winning games.

Could they slide into a wild card spot?

Very much so!

Seattle’s schedule down the stretch is brutal. The only game where it will be a heavy favourite is a road tilt against the San Francisco 49ers, although the ‘Hawks beat them by just three points earlier this year.

Otherwise, Seattle doesn’t face a team with a losing record. Having to play three divisional leaders (the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars).

Atlanta doesn’t have it easy either, with two games left with the 8-2 Saints and contests against the Vikings and Panthers.

The Lions’ toughest game should be a home contest with the Vikings, but after Thursday, they do not play a team with a winning record the rest of the way.

That game is in Week 17 and could decide the NFC’s last playoff participant.

The Cowboys also have three winnable games without Ezekiel Elliott.

Thursday at home against the Chargers, the following week at home versus the Redskins, preceding two road games with the snake bitten Giants and Raiders. Followed by Seattle in Dallas, and the season finale against the Eagles in Philly. (Philly will rest starters for the playoffs in this one, almost ensuring a Cowboys win.)

When the smoke clears, I have my Cowboys at 10-6, and the final wild card in the playoffs, in the NFC. With a healthy and pissed off ‘Zeke’ ready to run all over everybody. The Cowboys can still make the playoffs, but that window has closed considerably.

RIP TERRY GLENN

Former Cowboys WR Terry Glenn, dead at 43.

Glenn was driving on State Highway 114 with a woman when he veered out of his lane and struck a concrete barrier dividing the toll lane and main lanes, Irving police said.

Glenn was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died at about 12am.

Multiple news outlets identified his passenger as his fiance. Police said she had minor injuries.

“Terry was someone that we all enjoyed very much in his time with the Cowboys,” team owner Jerry Jones said in a statement.

“He was a gentle and kind-hearted young man. We are all terribly saddened by this news of his passing. Too young and too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his loved ones and all of the people who were touched by his life.”

Police were still investigating Monday afternoon what led to the crash. So until next week, go hard, or go home.
