American woman drowns off Berry Islands

POLICE are investigating the apparent drowning of an American woman in waters at Great Sturrup Cay off the Berry Islands on Sunday.

Shortly after 11am, the American woman was swimming with family members in the water near Great Sturrup Cay when she became unconscious, police were told. The woman was taken to shore and despite extensive CPR efforts was declared dead by a medical doctor.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations are continuing.

• Police are looking for two men who robbed a web shop on Cowpen Road.

The robbery occurred shortly before 1pm on Sunday, police said, when two men, one armed with a handgun, entered the gambling establishment and robbed the cashier of money.

The men escaped in a silver vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.

Police also said 11 people were arrested by Mobile Division officers over a 48-hour period during targeted patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimise the ability for criminals to commit illicit activities.

The persons were arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and outstanding court warrants. Also, 44 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations.
