Cybots to face Crimestoppers in BGDBA best-of-5 championships

THE Bahamas Government Departmental Basketball Association's best-of-five championships is all set. It is scheduled to begin 8pm Wednesday at AF Adderley Gymnasium and will be played between the Bamboo Shack Cybots and the Police Crimestoppers.

Last night, the two teams clinched their berth after they swept their respective best-of-three playoff series. While the Cybots finished off the Real Deal Rangers 83-77 in game two after winning the opener 103-98 to secure their berth, the Crimestoppers knocked off the Airport Avengers 111-103 in game two and 87-72 in game one.

Eugene Bain pumped in 20 points with 13 rebounds to power Bamboo Shack into the final in game two as they got a balanced scoring attack. Ernest Saunders had 16 points and four assists, Cordero Pinder 15 points and 11 rebounds and Georgio Walkes had 10 points, six steals, four assists and two rebounds.

Chico Frances scored 15 points with 16 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the losers. Salathiel Dean also had 15 points with 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks, Kevin McPhee had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Cybots 87,

Avengers 72

Ernest Saunders led four players in double figures with 17 points and four rebounds in their opening victory. Eugene Bain had 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals, Georgio Walkes had 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Jason Collie had 10 points and four rebounds and two steals. Cyril Rolle had 19 points, five rebounds and three assists to lead the losers.

Salathiel Dean had 16 points and five rebounds and Shad Edgecombe added 12 points.

Crimestoppers 111,

Avengers 103

Mark Hanna's game high 29 points, six assists and five rebounds, along with Randy Williams' 28 points and 10 rebounds were good enough to enable the Police to handcuff the Airport Authority in game two to advance to the final. Dion McPhee had 23 points and five assists, Vernon Stubbs 15 points and six rebounds and Ishmeal Curtis added 11 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.

Jorann Adderley had 27 points, six rebounds and three assists in a losing effort. Adorn Charlow came up with a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds, Devonn Brennen had 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals and Brian Bain chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Crimestoppers 103,

Avengers 98

Randy Williams was unstoppable, pouring in a game high 30 points with six rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals as the Police took the opener. Mark Hanna had 23 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks, Vernon Stubbs had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Ishmeal Curtis 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals and Dion McPhee finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Brian Bain had 21 points, three rebounds and three steals to lead the losers. Cecil Mackey had 18 points and four rebounds, Adorn Charlow had 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, Kamal Murphy had 15 points, six assists and three rebounds, Jorann Adderley had 13 points, three rebounds and two assists and Devonn Brennen had 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
