There's a lot more to being a true Christian

Going to church does not make one a Christian. Neither does singing in the choir, serving as an usher or feeding the poor.

According to Corey "DJ Counsellor" Rolle, as leader at Salem Baptist Church, Christians are who they are because of their relationship with Jesus Christ and nothing else. It is this message he hopes attendees grasp at this year's Battle Cry Conference.

Now in its third year, the Battle Cry conference is presented by Pulse, the youth ministry at the church. It takes place at Salem Baptist tomorrow and Saturday beginning at 7.30pm.

Under the theme 'Fan or Follower' the conference features various speakers and gospel entertainers. They include Eman, DJ Counsellor himself, Lashonna Williams, Leonardo Evans, Chosen Soldiers, Hearts Ablaze, Young Rev, V-MAC and many more.

DJ Counsellor said the theme is significant because some people think they are in a true relationship with Christ when in actuality they are far from it.

"It is very easy to think you have a relationship because of your association, but not really a committed follower. Jesus was never interested in fans but dedicated followers," he said.

As a youth director at Salem Baptist and DJ Counsellor has been on a mission to disciple those in their personal journeys with God.

"It is important to come and experience what 'Battle Cry' is. It is a life changing event. We are able to present one of the most powerful messages known to mankind-the gospel, which is geared to reach this generation," he said.

After last year's "Battle Cry" conference DJ Counsellor said many of the young attendees were inspired to commit themselves fully to discipleship. It is his hope is that more young people are inspired to walk in true relationship with God after this year's event.

"Our focus is always wining souls for the Kingdom and discipling them after they have been won," he said.

The Pulse Youth Church plans to host more outreach efforts in the coming weeks.

"This is just Part One. Part Two will be in November. Our aim is to continue to stay, share the message, hope, love and sharing the gospel in every community in the 242," he said.
