Not what the tourist brochures promised

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I attempted to drop some Canadian friends off at the eastern access point to Cabbage Beach on the weekend.

Unfortunately, it was still closed for repairs to the stairs so I took them to the access path near the hotels.

They were very disappointed.

They had visited that section of the beach previously. There was a lot of litter in the bush along the pathway. They were harassed by vendors on the beach.

“The thing is, after we politely declined to buy anything, they wouldn’t leave us alone.

“They kept pressing us to buy something,” one of my friends explained.

They were also surprised to see a policeman on the beach.

Was there a safety issue?

Their hearts were set on a quiet stretch of sandy white beach kissed by the extraordinary blues of the Bahamian sea.

It was not what the tourist brochures promised.
