LAST week Wednesday, the Nassau Street Hockey League continued with playoff hockey featuring a 6-2 win from the Hurricanes, which kept them from being eliminated, and a 4-0 win from the Sharks, which moved them onto the final round of the playoffs.

First up was the Hurricanes facing off against the Pirates. The Hurricanes took the win in this game 6-2. With the win here, the Hurricanes pushed the series to another game, tying the series up at 1-1 in a three-game series.

Jason Kinsale scored the most for the Hurricanes and recorded a hat-trick and two assists for five points.

After trying the same play multiple times, youngster Calum Moodie scored the game winner for the Hurricanes following a pass from Jason Kinsale, off the draw in the middle of the second period.

This goal split the point difference and the Hurricanes took off with momentum.

Brandon Skopelja of the Pirates took two penalties in the second period, once from delay of game and the other from tripping causing the Hurricanes to have a major offensive advantage.

The strong offensive performance for the Hurricanes was backed by a season-saving goaltending performance by Brian Simms, who recorded his first win as a goaltender this season right when it counted.

In the second game of the night, the Sharks came in leading 1-0 in the series against the Maple Reefs, and were able to close it out by winning 4-0. The Sharks played their best game of the season to force the Reefs out of the playoffs.

The star of this match-up was Sharks’ goaltender Phil Feller who was able to stop everything the Reefs threw at him.

Feller got the first ever NSHL playoff shutout in the 17-year league history. On the offensive side of things, Jeff Pease and John Kinger took home the big points, scoring three points each.

The Reefs did put up quite the fight, but were ultimately outplayed by the Sharks.

Now sitting at the top of the playoffs stats tables are Jeff Pease, Jason Kinsale and Chris Wheaton, who all now have six points.

Kinsale and Wheaton sit at 4 goals and 2 assists and Pease with 3 goals and 3 assists.

Playoff hockey continued with the Hurricanes taking on the Pirates in a deciding Game 3.

The winner advanced to a head-to-head matchup with the Sharks.
