The maths of tourism

EDITOR, The Tribune.

PM that GDP will grow by 2.5%…not because anything the FNM did actually because of what Baha Mar which they did not want to open — The Warwick Hotel and Courtyard.

Dah PM if you add 2,300 rooms with double occupancy do you have any idea what the revenue is for three-four days? Baha Mar is estimated conservatively to attract 3-400,000 visitors…do the maths.

Cruise Ship visits to Nassau: this is a disaster except for the vendors on Junkanoo Beach - renters of those ATV’s and Atlantis everyone else getting nothing.

If the mega ships are bringing 3-4-6,000 visitors I expect each one to send no less than $100,00, they don’t usually around $70.00…4.5 million cruise visitors so $450m in spend.

The problem is 25-30% disembark so that’s only 1.12 million may shop at $100.00 a head that’s a max of $113m not $400m…that’s the hurt and that’s what tourism and the downtown folks have to change.

Dress code for downtown, especially the cruise visitors? Is there one?

It seems males and females can walk from Prince George through Bay to Junkanoo Beach in bikini’s and shirtless and pass three-four police and nothing said! Why are we killing ‘Royale’ Bay?
